The Business Volunteer Council has its fingers on the pulse of community needs. With a deep understanding of the social issues facing our community and strong connections with area nonprofits the Business Volunteer Council is poised to make a difference. Our Mission is to help address serious social issues through the utilization of corporate resources and the mobilization of corporate volunteers. Below is a list of some of our annual initiatives to serve the community.

Hunger and Homelessness

et Involved

Serve a hot breakfast to nearly 200 Bergen County homeless at the Bergen County Shelter.

Be a part of this one-day national event that brings together a wide variety of community volunteers and services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

 

 

Project Homeless Connect Breakfast Servers

Rally volunteers to plant produce on an organic farm in July that will be harvested in September and delivered to low income families.

1 in 7 Americans rely on food pantries and meal service programs to provide food for their families. And often those are not offered healthy options.

Brown Bag Buddies Drive

Member wide collection of kid friendly foods to be distributed to children of low income families. These are children that typically receive subsidized school lunches.  1,151,890 food insecure families live in New Jersey. 32% are single mothers with at least two children.

Education and Literacy

Books in a Bag

Read Across America Day

Member wide collection of books for children grades K-12th grade. Books will be distributed to pre-school children and to youth in the Volunteer Center’s Bergen mentoring programs, supporting at risk youth. We plan to distribute over 10K books to nearly a 1000+ children in Northern New Jersey to promote family and childhood literacy. 23% of New Jersey residences read at or below a fourth grade level. Volunteers help sort 1000s of books collected and to be distributed to young readers.

Read to pre-school age children to help them celebrate the joy and importance of reading. Be a part of a movement to encourage and celebrate literacy by reading to over 600 children.

 

 

Big Book Giveaway

Tools for School

Volunteers help set-up, tables, create signs, and sort books for the annual Big Book Give Away for at risk youth and children in foster care. Your participation will help prepare and organized a special book fair for at risk youth.

 

 

Member wide collection of school supplies for grades K-12. Supplies will be distributed to Volunteer Center member agencies as outlined in the toolkit. We plan to distribute supplies to nearly 1000 at risk youth or children in foster care in Northern New Jersey.

 

 

Life After High School

Skills based opportunity that invites volunteers to facilitate groups that teach decision making and life skills to teens in foster care to help guide them to a fulfilling career. Opportunity to empower teens with limited emotional support or guidance to make the right decisions for their future and potentially change the course of their lives

Community Support

Bergen Mentor Field Day Picnic

Senior Care Drive

Be a part of this special self-esteem building event to give at risk children and their mentors a fun outing at Van Saun Park. Volunteer to host various games and activity stations for at risk youth at Van Saun Park. Such as relay races, arts and crafts, kick ball, etc.

Collect adult briefs and toiletries for seniors to be donated to the Adult Brief Bank and distributed through Meals On Wheels.

25 million older Americans are experiencing some form of urinary incontinence, and 25% of New Jersey seniors cannot event afford food and other basic needs.

Celebrate Volunteers

Inspiring event highlighting the ways in which volunteers enhance the community.  This is an opportunity to celebrate your most committed volunteers that continually give their time and talents for the betterment of the community.  Please make reservations in advance with number of attendees and what remarks you would like to add to the program.
